Evalution Question 3

Rough cut of Music Video

When we presented are rough cuts of our music video to the class the feedback we received was that the pace of our video was good, and they liked the idea of our rewind when the girls are in the park.

They also liked the close up of the leaves as it showed different shot types. The class enjoy the bit in the beginning when the two girls turn around together, but they thought we could have followed this through when they walked off as they didn’t really walk off at the same pace.

However, we did receive some negative feedback was that their was a lot of long gaps in our work, but the reason behind that was because we hadn't finish filming all the scenes. This made the narrative unclear for them to understand.

Music Video

Digipak Feedback

When Presenting our Digipak idea to the class we were given positive and constructive feedback. The positive feedback we received was that our idea fit with the conventions of an RnB album cover, they also liked the colours we used as they said they were quite natural which goes with the theme of our music video as it is quite a dreamy video. They said that our ideas showed we did research on what an RnB album covers look like.

Our constructive feedback we collected was that are title was too hidden, as they weren't sure whether it was a good idea or not and left them feeling a bit uncertain about it. But in our defends the reason for the title being like that is because most RnB album titles are like that, especially beyonce, she has had titles like that,so we wanted to keep with that convention. They said that the cloud theme was a bit too much but the reason for it, is to keep it with the theme of how dreamy the girl is in the music video and to also keep it looking quite natural. Some of the class was quite confused about the rose, but it was because of the way we drew it, as the layout of our paper was different to the way we would do it on photoshop, the rose is just going to be one picture of a rose that goes across the inside front and inside fold of the album, so when we do it on photoshop it won't be so confusing.

Magazine Advert Feedback

Our magazine advertisement was based on the conventions of an RnB advert, we looked at different ways in which Beyonce advertises her albums and from the different albums we looked at, we took the ideas of having the name of the artist in big, bold, black letters in order for it to stand out and in little, italic letters we had the name of the song, the reason for this was because in actual RnB adverts they usually have the artist name in bold to stand out for the audience to see clearly who the artist is.

We also had the release date of the album in big, black bold letters so are audience can know when the album is to be released. The reason for that is because the whole point of the advert is to inform the audience when the album will be out, so having that in bold it will immediately stand out and they will know straight away.

In the different magazine adverts that we looked up, we realised that a lot of them have some kind of critics information. So we decided to add what some critics thought about the album, in order for the audience to know how well it is and if it is worth buying. We had the stars in black because, we wanted them to stand out and went with the colour of the advert. Also because every single magazine advert we looked at had all the stars in black and this is usually the colour of the stars in the music industry.

We decided to have the main singer in the background because after researching a lot of Beyonce's and other RnB singer's  magazine adverts we realised that they usually have the main singer posing on the album, this is one of the most common conventions of  a magazine advert in the genre of RnB.

The colour of the background was that colour because, we wanted to go with the natural, dreamy theme of our music video. But also after looking at many more magazine adverts we decided to do it that colour because most RnB adverts are quite colourful but also simple. We may also change it and mess around with the colour more when it comes to making the advert as this is not the final decision.

In conclusion, we made sure are work was up to standards and to the best of our ability, I enjoyed watching our work improve and become what it is today.

Evalution Question 4

I used ‘You Tube’ to look at different RnB music videos in order to get different ideas of the types of techniques they use and different angle shots, so that we could add them in our music video in order to meet some of the obvious conventions of the genre, and to make our music video look professional. We also used You Tube to look at tutorials on how to do different techniques on Premiere Pro and I personally used it to learn how to use photoshop as I wasn’t that great at using it.

We used the ‘camera’ in order to film our music video, we also used it to take photos in order to put them on our blogs' and in our booklet of our digi pak as it made it look like a professional digi pak because usually artist in RnB genres have photos of them working, which we wanted to do as well, so we can show ourselves working.

We used ‘survey monkey’ in order to ask our target audience what they wanted to see and expect in a music video in RnB, so the survey monkey website was a good way to gain feedback and gave us an idea of what types of things to include in our music video and what type of song they would like to hear.

We used ‘amazon’ in order to do some research on what a CD cover looked like. On amazon I searched Cd's like ‘Beyonce’, ‘Kelly Rowland’, and many more, in order for me to see what current RnB artist CD covers looked like. This gave me some ideas in to how to make my CD cover look like. For example one of the main things that I realised was that they usually had the artist face on the cover, which we then went on to also use, as it was an obvious convention and we wanted to kind of do this but with a twist.

We used ‘photoshop’ to make our digi pak and magazine adverts as this programme allowed us to use lots of different techniques in order to give our work a professional finish.
We used ‘Adobe premiere pro cs3’ to do most of our work; we did our editing for our music video on this programme, this programme in able us to use different transitions and editing tools, to make our music video look smooth and real.

We used ‘google’ to find different websites so we could get information on artist in the RnB genre and find different ideas on how to use most of the software.

I used ‘wikipedia’ in order to find background history on ‘Beyonce’ like her dress sense and basic history on her, so i could find out what types of things she likes. Also I used this website for information on conventions on RnB music videos and artist.

I used my ‘facebook’ in order to get some of my target audience for our music video to answer our survey so we could find out what they wanted to see in the music video. I think face book was a good source to gain feedback from because most of our target audience use it.

I used ‘blogger’ to blog most of my feedback and to also gain feedback as well, I used this website to also post my survey and information on ‘beyonce’ and this is the website I used the most to do most of my work.

Finally I used ‘Beyonce’s official website’ to find out information on her and see the different types of music videos she has done in order to get some kind of an idea on what she wears and how her make- up is done in her videos. Also to see what type of editing she has, and what types of story lines and dance routines featured in her music videos.

Music Video- Evalution Question 1

In what ways does your media product use, develop or challenge forms and conventions of real media products?

 Frame 1

The reasons why I have chosen this frame is because this kind of effect has become a convention of the RnB genre. So within this frame we have used the conventions of the genre as it gives a very interesting and exciting effect to the music video. The reasons why it makes it interesting is because it gives the audience a chance to see more then one image in one part of the video, as it goes with the tempo of the song. Our song is very fast tempo and we wanted to add an effect that will allow us to pack a number of images at the same time keeping to the tempo of the music, so after researching  Drake 'headlines' we found this kind of effect and used the crop tool to make it work. I think this frame is very eye catchy and really gets the audience in the tempo and mood of the song.

Frame 2

The reason why I have chosen the second frame of the sun is because although the RnB genre doesn't often have a natural theme to it, we decided to challenege this convention becasue of the storyline we had in our music video. I think it gives a nice, dreamy effect to the music video as most of the audience wouldn't expect this from a RnB video especially because our song has a very fast pace to it. I also chose this frame because it is a nice simple shot of the sun and we didn't have to do any further editing on it as the camerawork was very good, and it went very well with the lyrics of the song. It also gave a natural effect to the video, which was a nice, relaxing part to watch.

Frame 3

The reason why I have chosen this frame is becasue having subtitles within this genre has become popular, the reason for this is becasue a lot of RnB music videos have a little bit of a talking scene at the start of their video. Within these talking scenes the characters often use colloquial language, so some people find it hard to understand what they might be saying. The reason why this frame has been chosen is because, we wanted to add subtitles, but instead of just adding subtiles we thought to develop the idea and have the words in a chat format on the screen. I think this effect made the audience automatically more involved in the video has they didn't just have to watch the character texting they got to see what she was texting. We also got this idea from a the TV soap 'Hollyoaks' where they use this texting effect.

Frame 4

I have chosen this frame becasue having shots of the characters to the side gives a more varitey of shot type for the audience as seeing the characters from the same angle can make the audience be bored and uninterested of the music video. Most RnB genres have different types of shots of their characters to give the audience different angles to look at, in order to get them more involved.

Frame 5

The frame of the split screen is a massive convention in RnB a lot of artist use this kind of effect because it enables the audience to see more then one image on the screen and is a good idea to use when two characters are having a conversation on the phone. I chose this frame because I like the fact that we used a split screen because it allows the audience to see the facial expressions of both of the characters when they are talking to each other and this lets the audience know through their facial expressions what they are, each feeling and thinking and how they are reacting to what one another is saying.

Frame 6

A lot of RnB music videos use a lot of shot types, the reason why I chose this frame is because it gives the audience an overall view of the location, the two main characters and an idea of what might happen, just from the positioning of the shot. I think this goes completely with the conventions of the RnB genre as the main conventions often feature bright lighting, a male and female and a different angle, so the way we framed the shot made it very interesting and revealing to the audience because they didn't just see the actors they also could see the whole location and what kind of weather it was on that day, which was the whole point.

Frame 7

The frame of our main character on the bus challenges the conventions of our genre because not often do we see an RnB artist singing on a bus they are often in a studio singing with a dance rountine especially 'Beyonce'. The reason why I chose this frame is because we challenge the convention of it, by having her sing on the bus as we had a story line, I think this went more with our music video because in a way it was unpredictable as most people expect her to be singing in a studio with a dance rountine, so it gave the audience a surprise.

Frame 8

The frame of the characters playing in the park was chosen because often in this genre they don't feature this kind of setting and location in a park, as most of the time the location and acting is the artist dancing, singing etc.... but the reason for this frame was to show that the characters are full of joy, are young and free and just basically having fun. We wanted to show this because it followed our story line and also makes the audience chill out and have fun with the characters.

Frame 9

Often in RnB music videos they show a phone or ipod which starts the beginning of the song and shows the songs name and artist. The reason why I chose this frame is because I think it was a really effective and great idea and makes our music video look professional as it gives the audience more shots to see in the video instead of always seeing the characters. So using this shot grabs the audience back in after a long introduction to our song.

Magazine Adverts

Magazine Advert FeedBack

When presenting our magazine advert to the class, we received a lot of positive feedback as they liked our overall idea of it as they said that they liked the way it linked to our digipaks, because it looked like an advertisement of an RnB genre advert.
We were given one piece of contractive feedback, which was that they weren’t sure on the background cover. The colour is a creamy colour, the reason why we chose this colour was to go with the whole idea of a dreamy effect which we feel goes and links with our music video and digipaks, but when making it on the photoshop we will play around with different coloured backgrounds.
