Investigation on the Four Websites

I will be investigating three website and i will find out for each one of them the following:

  • The purpose/mission
  • What type of information is available
  • Who might use the organisation or website
  • 2 interesting things I learned from the organisation
The first website I am going to investigate is http://www.britfilms.com/

The purpose/mission of the britfilm website is it basically enables people of any age to make a short film and sent it in to be shown at a festival, the films need to be less than 45 minutes long and need to have a British director or producer.  It is linked with the National organisation the British Academy of Film and Television Arts (BAFTA)

The type of information that is available when going on to the website is the following things:

  • Who does what in the UK film industry
  • Film- maker resources and information
  • British films and Film makers
  • Directory of international film and video films
  • Training and courses
  • News and Events
  • Spotlight
  • Cannes Film Festivals Guide
  • Site Map
When you click on each heading it gives a lot of information and it is available to everyone who goes on the site so the site is very useful as a lot of information is available.

The type of People who might use the website or the organisation are the people who may be starting or wanting to start a career in directing and film making and by them sending there films to this organisation might be the best place to start, the organisation may see potential in these people and from there a whole new career may start.

The two interesting things i found from the organisation is that they can like make dreams come true, by this i mean even with that little film they send in they may see potential in people who want to start a career in directing and it looks to me it is a good place to start. My other interests was that the website is really good at giving a lot of information to people like they even give a site map to help you it is a really useful site to look at.

The second website I am going to look at is http://www.bfi.org.uk/

The purpose/mission of the BFI (British Film Institute) is to promote understanding and appreciation of film and television heritage and culture. Established in 1933, the BFI runs a range of activities and services.

The type of information that is available is as followed:

  • What's on
  • Research
  • Education
  • Filmstore
  • Archive
  • Members
  • About
All these things are on the website when you first go on and they give you all sorts of information to help you along when visiting the site.

The type of people who might use the website or organisation is young teenagers i think and younger adults because it is kind of a website where you can make films and just basically have a lot of fun and at the same time appreciate the work and art of film.

The two interesting things I have learnt about the website is that it is really colourful and eye-catching to look out, and the other thing is that there is more information on this website than there was on the other and it even has like films people have made when going there fr the day. Which really inspires the whole idea of the organisation.

The third website I will be looking at is http://www.netribution.co.uk/

The Purpose/mission of the website is all about the discovering Latin America which is the largest of its kind in the UK and for the ninth year promises to present the city of London with a wide variety of brilliant feature films and shorts, as well as exciting documentaries spanning the whole political spectrum, thrilling retrospectives, thought- provoking mater-classes, enthralling discussions with film directors and many other events.

The type of information that is available on the website is:

  • Community
  • News
  • Interviews
  • Blogs
  • Forum
  • Calendar
When clicking on each one it will then give you more information as to what they are all about.

The people who might use the website is Latin American people who are interested in the world of films.

the two things i found interesting was that it was actually for Latin Americans and they making it all in the UK and that they are quite successful for nine years now in the city of London.

The fourth website i will be looking at is http://www.ukfilmcouncil.org.uk/
The purpose/mission of this website is as follows:
  • The UK Film Council was created in 2000 and is the Government-backed lead agency for film delivery in the UK;

  • Since its creation the UK Film Council has been the cornerstone of the British film industry and the funder of most of the big cultural film initiatives – we have backed more than 900 films, shorts and features, entertained more than 200 million people and helped to generate approximately £700 million at the box-office worldwide.  For every £1 of Lottery money we have invested, £5 has been generated at the box office, allowing us to reinvest that recoupment straight back into new British films;

  • The type of information that is available is when you first enter the website is as follows:

    • About us
    • Funding
    • Filming
    • Distrubition
    • Strategy
    • Research
    • News
When you click on each one they give you more information on what they are about.

The people who might use the website or organisation is people who love films and enjoy to watch a good british film, maybe even families having a movie night in.

Two interesting things i have learn't about the website/organisation is firstly i like the fact that they bring british films to life and it looks really interesting. secondly i like the fact that there is a lot of information on all types of things you want to know.

    Horror Film Animatic Feedback

When we presented are horror film animatic to the class the feedback that we receive was that we should make are opening a lot shorter as it was too long and we do have a time limit, also that we should have more different types of shots and maybe a bit more sounds within the story.

I think personally that we needed to improve our animatic a lot becasue we couldn't of had some of the shots from different angles instead of the same one, also i think the sounds were good at the right time but the use of i a bit more would og been good anfd i think a bit more interesting for people to watch. I also think the story could of be a bit more clear for people to understand and more shots could of been add to show that it is actually a horro film not just a school drama.

Also although we added information on the back about it i think a few more lines should of been filled in so the story is fully clear to understand.

I also think that because it was too long we have now taken it on board and have cut down on how long it is, also we did add more interesting shots and when filming we will be filming from different angles instead of just the same one, to make the audience intereseted and drawn in. we have add more sounds to are film so that it is not just boring talking throught out.

    Distributor

    1. What is a film distributor do?

A film distributor is either a company or an individual responsible for releasing films to the public either theatrically or for home viewing. A distributor may do this directly or through theatrical exhibitors and other sub-distributors.

    2. Name three major film distributors and give examples of films they have distributed

First distributor is 20th Century Fox
They have distributed recently "Crazy Heart" and "500 Days of Summer"
    Second distributor is Artificial Eye
They have recently distributed "Certified Copy" and "Police Adjective"
Third distributor is Arts Alliance Media
They have recently distributed "Oil City Confidential" and "Rush: Beyond The Lighted Stage"

    3. Suggest a film distributor for your film and explain why they would distribute your film

Warner’s Bros I would use to be our film distributor as they our the distributor of the film "Orphan" and this film is a bit like our film and it was quite a popular film in the UK.

    JellyBaby Shot

This shot is a wide shot. in this shot this girl has finished getting something out of her locker when this group of girls walk up to her and start bullying her. The credit in this shot is first actors name and what film they are starring in.

In this shot it is a close up of the teacher. in this shot the teacher has seen them and comes along to tell them they have a detention for not being in lessons. The film credits is who the music is by.

This shot is over the shoulder shot. In the shot the girls attend detention and before the teacher comes along they are throwing paper at her. The credits in this shot is who the film is directed by.

In this shot it is a long shot. In the shot the teacher has come to take the detention and she is telling them that she dosen't tolerate bullying under any cirumstances, and then after dismisses them. The credit for this shot is the names of the other actors.

    Title credits

When analysing the title credit for vertigo, i realise it is very different on how it is nowadays. Because it straight away it  said the the film company then after it went to the main actor and what they are starring in. This is different to the other one seven because it took a while to bring up the title. Also it said all the actors in one go, in the importance of how they are in the film.

When analysing the title credit for se7en again like the last one it started with  the film company and went on to show the director of the film so i think that they show the more important people who put the most effort into the film and star in the film at the beginning of the credits. Also they then repeat the directors name as he has basically made the film.

    Premlim Task- Feedback

I learnt from the Premlim task that you have to make sure the camera is always focus on what is suppose to be happening, also the movement of the camera is very important because you have to make sure that the character is always the focus.

Also I have learnt that in the editing you have to be careful that you have to cut the right things out and not the things that you want to keep, also you have to make sure that you add the right sound effects in the right place and add titles, by making them nice and effective to do with the storyline.

I also learnt that the different shots are important because otherwise it will just be boring having the same shot.

    Titles Analysing

The first title: Adventure Time Opening
I like this one because it is very colourful it grabed by attention from the very beginning, the music was like an exciting tune that made you wanbt ot watch it. There was a lot of non-digetic sounds in the opening like random people talking when know one was there. The mise-en-scene was just basically cartoons, also there was birght and colourful lighting. I think the way it was put together was excellent especially with all the different cartoon characters made it look really interesting and like you actully want to sit down and watch it.  the framing was interesting as well as you have like a few characters in the frame and there was a lot of close-up shots and medium close ups.

    The Second Title:  Dexter

I like this one becasue the use of Mise-en-scence is great the lighting was bright, colourful but at the same time dull showing the opening to be quite wired and unexpected, also the name of the title went from bright red to a darker red.  the props like the inset running up his arm at the beginning and the orange squeezing. Camerawork there was lots of extreme close ups and close ups and a medum shot of the man showing him for the first time. There was a lot of non-digetic sounds like the blood dripping becasue you could see it but you couldnt hear it and the inset running up his arm. (see it but cant hear it). there are many digectic sounds as well killing the inset, water running, shaving his face, eagg be cooked knife and fork scracting on the plate, orange being cut and squeezed. The sound effects situated the opening becasue it was wired and mysterious like what was happening in the opening.

    The Thired Title: 25th Hour
The music was soft to open with, with light singing then it went on to become more like we were seeing paradise. At the beginning it started with a establilshing shot and move on to long shot and medium shot. It began with a sunny and nice day and then it became evening as the music went on when the music went on it really looked like everything great happens in the dark. I felt more interested as there was beauitful lights and it looked amazing, i actually felt part of the music and really wanted to carry on watching the rest of the film. The sound effect i think set the establishement of the film.

My Feedback from the Presentation "100 Days of Misery"

Make sure actor is as good as we want her to me.
Organsie the costume to make the actor look wired.
Not enough information, how to get all the school children
Who is going to do the make up.
    http://prezi.com/wrpergsob-j8/film-opening-plan/

We have improved this becasue the actor we choose is doing all that we told her and is doing a great job anything we do not think is right with her we tell her and she works on it to improve it and performs an outstanding performance.

The make- up that we have decided to use is bright red lip stick and black eyeliner, we hopefully are going to edit her eyes to make her have red or blue eryes to show that this is a horror film and no school drama.

All the school children agree to do the play and hopefully it will be a success.

Conventions with video clips and images

Screaming- The purpose of screaming is to add a dramtic effect to to the film because you are able to understand the emotion and fear the character is going throught.

Violence- The purpose of violence is to show the reason why soemthing is happening because without it their would be no point in the film.

Blood- The purpose of blood is to make the violence look real and to make it look more like real life because this is what adds the effective and makes it look like a good film.

Bird Nosies- The purposes of these noise is to make the film seem creepy and like something oput of nowhere is about to jump out and scare us as the audience.

Young Children- The purpose of having young children in a horror film is to make the film seem like there is a lost of innocence and make us feel more scared because we dont like to see a young child being hurt so it would make us feel scared and sorry for the child unless they are evil themselves.

Darkness and Daylight- The purpose of having a certain time of the day top set the film at is becasue when it is in darkness it makes us feel like something is to happen so you expected it whereas when it is in the daylight you dont really expected something to happen because during the day everything is suppose to be normal and not scarey and night is when things happen.

Analysing of the movie opening Scream.

When watching the beginning of the film Scream i was drawn in from the very beginning as it was a sudden harsh noise and after the phone rings straight away which makes you suddenly jump but when the girl starts to talk normaly you think it is all fine. The man on the other side of the phone talks as if he is generally nice. You can hear like a soft background nice which makes you feel like that noise is going to build up to be something worst.

Once it shows the outside and bird making creepy noises that is when you know it is all going to kick off. The noises of the birds adds a sense of something that is going to happen next and it kind of creeps you out. When it then shows the swing moving slowly without any wind you kind of waiting for someone to pop out of no where and scare you. But instead it goes but to the inside of the house and the girl is still talking to the man on the phone. When the man on the phone says to the girl 'i want to know who i am looking at?' is when the creepiest starts and you get the sense of fear in the girls voice which then starts the loud, harsh music that the girl has to just run and see if all the doors are lock. The way the music at that point adds effect is becasue you are not expected the music to be that loud all of a sudden and it kind of bring fear and scareness to everyone watching and you feel the tension building up also the music at that point adds drama and you can really see where all the drama and action in the movie is going to kick off. At that point i really wanted to see the rest of the movie as i wanted to see what was going to happen next. I think film directors add music to draw us in straight away at the beinnging to make us want to carry on watching it, The beginng of the film is the most important because if that bit is interesting people would want to see the rest of the film. The girl has a lot of fear in her voice and the background music makes us feel like we are in her position.

There are lots of diegetic sounds like popcorn, birds, oven being turn on, knife noises. This adds a lot of tension and excitement of what may be coming next so the audience are just on the edges of there sits waiting to see what will happen. The non- diegetic sounds that are used is the screaming at the very beginnig of the film. When she says the word 'yes' you can really hear and sense the fear in her voice and the background music at the point is really fricky. The man on the other side of the phone you can really feel what kind of sick person he is by the way he laughts. Also the sound effects build up this big tension for the audience so we feel fear and like we want to help this girl.
