Evaluation Q3

'100 days of Misery'  would start off being screened at a a British film festival  'THE WIND-UP LIFE as this is a short film just like the opening of are thriller/ horror film. which promotes independent films within the UK.  If our film becomes a success which there may be no reason it won't be i think the next step would be to take it to the cinemas like the Empire, Odeon and VUE in order to be screened for people to watch. Then after we would sell it on DVD, Blue-Ray, and also rented in blockbusters anbd solded on the internet. I would also like it to become more successfull and shown in the theatre like the 'Young Vic' in westend.

Our production company  'Eye Make Production' would like to employ good distributor 'Slumdog Milliuonaire' who are also recently disbuting '127 Hours' which is a horror/ thirller of this year.

I think are film should be screened in cinema's as it shows different aspects of editing, different shops and imagination for our point of view. It will also appeal to the younger audience we would like.  Such as the film 'The Lovely Bones'

I have done some research on the current horror and thriller films around now that are showing at the odeon cinemea. The odeon cinema is the largest cinema chains within the UK and as they have many cinemas located across the UK  with films shown at different times, I think are movie would slot into one of these times. There are many new horror films being realse recently which shows that our film genre is well known and well watched by a massive audience. As there are a lot of horror films being shown in different types of cinemas i think the best place to screen are film would be at the cineworld as i have seen only three horror films being screened there so if are one was to be screened there, there would be more attention to it as it will only be a fourth horror film and different to the ones that are being shown at the money.

We would also like to use the internet to make are film go global, in order for people who dont have the money to go to the cinema. Therefore they can watch it on 'YouTube'this would allow us to put the best parts of the movie together to make a trailer for are audience to see whether they would find it interesting or not,' http://www.moviewatchers.us'and/ also can be advertise in newspapers, on the buses, and Tv.

He ignores her comment, washes his hands and sits to eat, everyone is silent whilst eating. When they finish eating Nicholas leaves his plate and goes to the leaving room, puts his feet up, puts the TV on and starts to read The Guardian Newspaper. Whilst Carolina is left at the table to tidy everything up and start to put the kids to sleep.

An hour later around 7:00PM, Carolina has just put the kids to sleep and comes to sit on the sofa, Where Nicholas is watching TV, as she opens the door he looks up and gives her a smile. she sits down and he starts to stare at her, she is watching the TV but can feel his eyes on her.

Carolina: Going to make some tea. ( choking up on her words, as she holds back tears).

Nicholas: I don't want tea and nither do you. (becoming more serious)

How do they challenge dominant representations?

The way they challenge dominant representation is in this story the man is dominant he has the most control, for example over his wife but he is also tempted by a woman as well. Men are often though to be the dominant representation because they are big, strong and can fight better meaning they can have anything they want.
Why challenge dominant representations of gender?

The reason why you would challenge dominant representations of gender is because they are two types of gender male are seen to be strong and big and get what they want, whereas women are seen to be weak and have to either be sexy to tempt a male or powerful which most women are not.

Feedback for Rough cuts of Horror Film

When presenting our horror film to the class the feedback we receive, some negative and some positive.

we were told that he title credits were too fast and instead of having them rolling or crawling we should just have them still and not moving becasue it would look more realistic. The establishing shot was good and slow which made it look realistic and a very good opening scene. We were also told to put more transitions in our films to make it flow more.

The story line was very clear and had a good sequence to it, also the shots worked well making the story more understandable to the audience. The sound worked well in the last shot which made it very effective and interesting, but we were told to add more sound as it needed it becasue at the moment it isn't very effective and makes you want to keep watching it.

The lighting maked it look dark and threating which added a great effect to the film becasue it really looks like a good horror film and it makes the corridors of the school look really scary and like anything can happen. Lastly we were told to add more shot types becasue we need to show more fear the characters faces and the only way to do this is to have more extreme closes-ups.

Sounds in TV Drama

In lesson we watch a few TV clips and analysed what effect sound had on each one of them.

  1. Spooks: In the beginning of clip there is like a mysteries sound to show discovery and questioning of people. As the clip goes on the music changes to make a sound as if the characters are taking all the information that they have just been told, in order to actually understand what is going on. The music changes to show a change of scene and different characters talking. When the character slams down his hand on the table and immediately the camera goes straight to his face this shows power and also the music then starts and it is kind of like a discovery and kind of makes it sound evil and frightening, in order to make the other character feel small and stupid and found out.
  2. Bleak House: Towards the end of the clip there is sad music to show a sad scene when it is announced that someone has died. As the music is added it shows the characters to be quite sad and lonely, because although they have each other they might kind of feel like in there own little world and really alone. Then when the music gets a it more louder after the man asks the woman to get married the music gets more happier and you also get the sense of relief that the man has finally told the woman what he has wanted to say for a long time.
  3. Eastenders Clip:  In this clip of Eastenders there was not that much of ambient sounds, but more realism sounds of like tea being drinked, phone being played with. Also there was a lot of dialogue which actually made the scene because without the dialogue you wouldn't really understand what is happening in the scene so it gives us information and you also kind of feel involve in the scene because it is more realistic.
  4. Spooks MIF: In this clip of spooks the music was kind of music that showed discuss and like they really couldn't believe what the man was actually doing. Aso there was a flashback of something that happen to the man and with this there was like a sad and upset music which reflected how the man felt at that present moment of time.
  5. Desperate HouseWives: In this clip at the beginning sad music was played to make us feel really sorry for the woman but then when the other kind of evil character was shown the music changed from sad to like evil to show that we dont feel sorr for this character becasue she has come back from the pass to annoy and cause trouble for everyone around her.

British Film Review

The British Film i have choosen to watch and review is Four Weddings and a Funeral.

The plot of the film is basically the film follows the adventures of a group of friends through the eyes of Charles played by (Hugh Grant), a debonair but faux pas-prone Englishman, who is smitten with Carrie, an attractive American played by (Andie MacDowell), whom Charles repeatedly meets at weddings and at a funeral.

The camerawork used within the film was excellent, which included, medium shots to show the main character talking, also there was a lot of long/establishing shots to show each of the locations for the four weddings and then for the funeral. There was wide shots to show a lot of the actors and extras when there was like a party, this kind of shot was used to show us everyone having a fun time at the weddings. There was also the use of over the shoulder shot which was use when the two main actors where having a conversation between each other and we were able to see the facial expressions of each of them and how they reacted to what one another were saying. There was also the used of 180 degree angle used when the american actress was walking towards the englishman. There was the use of zooming up on the characters to show what kind of facial expression was been shown when talking to the other character, this was then used as a close up shot of the character to show the happniess of the englishman charles and to show us that he has actually fallen in love with the woman. There was also medium close ups used to show both the characters in bed together. In beginning there was a use of extreme close up on the main character which is the englishman. There was also bird's eye shot when the englishman was looking down on the american woman and there you get the sense of love and affection especially when she looks up at him.

There was lot of digetic sounds and non- digectic sounds. The digetic sounds include the following:

  • Alarm clock ringing at the beginning of the film
  • Egg being fried, which makes a zilling noise
  • Zipping up a suitcase
  • Flash of a camera, at the first wedding and the rest of them
  • Church bells for the four weddings and the funeral
  • Clapping hands
  • Crowd talkind and laughting
  • Shoes tapping
  • Crying in the funeral
  • Laughing
  • Wispering
  • Rain poring down at the end
The non-diegtic sounds include:

  • Music in the beginning of the film, with the credits
  • Wedding Music
  • Romantic Music
  • A lot of celebrational music
  • More relax quite music to show love and affection
  • Music to show death and saddness
  • Happy music at the end
  • Music when the brides enter the church
The wheather in the film is very clearly thought of becasue when it is the  four weddings the wheather is very sunny and reflects the mood everyone is in, so it shows that it is a day for everyone to be happy the sun is shining and people are getting married. Whereas, when the funeral is happening the wheather is dull, miseriable and raining which reflects the mood everyone is in becasue they are saying goodbye to someone and they will never see them again. But what is very clever is the fact that towards the end there is a romantic chase between the englishman and the american woman and true movie style it is raining so it kind makes it more romantic because he is willing to do anything to be with her and chasing her through the rain shows true love and they just stand in the middle of the street alone and here there is romantic dagloue followed by the obvisious which is kissing the middle of the street alone just them in the scene alone.

As always mise-en- secene is always used in films. In this film the location is in England where the man lives and he is the main actor but it does also give us a glimples of america in the beginning becasue that is where the american woman lives but will only see this at the beginning of the film.  The costumes used in the film is as followed for the men when going to the four weddings is suits to look like they are going to a wedding but when it comes to the funeral the men wear black suits to look like they are morning the dead person. For the women when attending the four weddings they where beautiful bright coloured dresses to show that they are going to a wedding. When it came to the funeral they wore black dresses to show depression and reflect the mood they were all in. At the end it shows pictures from all the four weddigns that they atttended. The make-up that was used made them look like they were going to a wedding and when it came to the funeral the women didnt wear as much make-up as they did to the wedding. There was artifical lights used at night time and then at day time when it was daylight there was no extra lights needed to be used, which meant it was ambient lights which comes naturally from light giving throught out the day. When the romatic chase happened and then charles catched up with the woman it was just the two of them in the scene which made it look really nice and romantic and at that point i really felt for them both.

Throught out the film obvious there was a lot of diagloue which included romantic, chuch vows, words said when someone dies and then just a lot of taslking needed to make the film what it is. There was a lot diagloue in an english accent.

I think with all the camerawork and sounds, also the mise-en-secene the film was amazing and it really is a good romatic comedy to watch i really enjoyed watching every moment of it.
