When watching the beginning of the film Scream i was drawn in from the very beginning as it was a sudden harsh noise and after the phone rings straight away which makes you suddenly jump but when the girl starts to talk normaly you think it is all fine. The man on the other side of the phone talks as if he is generally nice. You can hear like a soft background nice which makes you feel like that noise is going to build up to be something worst.
Once it shows the outside and bird making creepy noises that is when you know it is all going to kick off. The noises of the birds adds a sense of something that is going to happen next and it kind of creeps you out. When it then shows the swing moving slowly without any wind you kind of waiting for someone to pop out of no where and scare you. But instead it goes but to the inside of the house and the girl is still talking to the man on the phone. When the man on the phone says to the girl 'i want to know who i am looking at?' is when the creepiest starts and you get the sense of fear in the girls voice which then starts the loud, harsh music that the girl has to just run and see if all the doors are lock. The way the music at that point adds effect is becasue you are not expected the music to be that loud all of a sudden and it kind of bring fear and scareness to everyone watching and you feel the tension building up also the music at that point adds drama and you can really see where all the drama and action in the movie is going to kick off. At that point i really wanted to see the rest of the movie as i wanted to see what was going to happen next. I think film directors add music to draw us in straight away at the beinnging to make us want to carry on watching it, The beginng of the film is the most important because if that bit is interesting people would want to see the rest of the film. The girl has a lot of fear in her voice and the background music makes us feel like we are in her position.
There are lots of diegetic sounds like popcorn, birds, oven being turn on, knife noises. This adds a lot of tension and excitement of what may be coming next so the audience are just on the edges of there sits waiting to see what will happen. The non- diegetic sounds that are used is the screaming at the very beginnig of the film. When she says the word 'yes' you can really hear and sense the fear in her voice and the background music at the point is really fricky. The man on the other side of the phone you can really feel what kind of sick person he is by the way he laughts. Also the sound effects build up this big tension for the audience so we feel fear and like we want to help this girl.
